What is AD&D Insurance?

If you were to die suddenly due to a covered accident or injury, you or your beneficiary will receive the benefit amount you chose upon purchasing coverage. This lump-sum payment can then be used for immediate or future needs. Once enrolled, you will be covered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from an accident that occurs on or off the job.

How is AD&D Insurance different from life insurance?

AD&D insurance benefits are paid in addition to any life insurance benefits and can help safeguard your family's lifestyle if the income you provide is no longer available. AD&D coverage provides benefits if an accident occurs, not if death occurs naturally. Unlike life insurance, AD&D insurance provides benefits if the insured loses a limb, sight, hearing or speech from a covered accident.

What is the benefit of Group AD&D Insurance?

Your status as a Union Member means you and your spouse can purchase valuable AD&D protection at affordable group rates. Group AD&D insurance typically offers lower rates than you could receive as an individual for the same coverage and benefit package. Group insurance also means you can never be singled out for a rate increase, or a change in benefits, even if your health changes as you grow older.

What are my rates based upon?

Your rates for coverage are based on the amount of coverage you apply for and whether you choose individual or family coverage. Rates can only be changed if changed for everyone under the Group Master Policy.

What is a premium?

The premium is the payment you make for an insurance certificate.

What is a beneficiary(ies)?

Your beneficiary(ies) is the person(s) you name in an insurance policy to receive the death benefit.

Are there any age requirements?

Coverage is available for members and their spouses ages 18-69.

Are my children eligible for coverage?

Your coverage provides 10% of your AD&D benefit for unmarried, dependent children who are full time students. 1

Can my insurance be terminated?

Coverage continues as long as premiums are paid when due, you remain a union member, the group policy remains in force and is not modified by the policyholder to end insurance for the group of insureds to which you belong. Coverage will expire for you or your spouse at age 80.

What is the Labor Dispute Waiver of Premium?

During a union-sanctioned strike or lockout lasting 30 days or more, your premium will be waived for up to 12 months one time within a consecutive 12-month period.*

Are there any exclusions to my coverage?

We pay a benefit if a covered injury results in an insured's loss of life, limb, sight, hearing, or speech. The injury must occur while the Certificate is in force and within 365 days of the covered injury. Please consult your certificate of insurance for a complete list of exclusions.
